Mobile Car Wash – my experience

When you think of a mobile car wash, what is the first thing you think of? How about a truck that has a huge drive in car wash? How about a big bucket and hose? It’s actually just a fully kitted out vehicle with every conceivable cleaning product for your car. A lot of people are unaware of what a mobile service can offer them, freeing up there time to do other things, a professional touch on your vehicle, or even someone to give you tips about looking after your car. One of the things I did not realise was the damage that can be caused by car wash machines at local service stations. For years we have put our families vehicles through the local Caltex car wash, all along I thought that the brushes were cleaning the paint thoroughly, well how I was wrong.

When I decided to use a mobile car wash service to get my van cleaned, I had a great chat with the guys who came out, we discussed all the usual car stuff and got into the nitty gritty of the paint work. I had no clue about the paint job on my van; I thought it was either clean or dirty. As I watched the guys clean my van, i started to justify the money I was paying them. They paid attention to every little detail, not like the car wash at Caltex that just ate $8 and threw a big scratchy brush at my van! The guys showed me the difference between using good quality products, and cheap products. I could see instantly the difference in the paint work, and how it made my van look new again.

No more $8 car washes for me, I will save that money usually spent and get the mobile car wash guys in once every couple of months to take proper care of my van! Take my advice and if you care for your vehicle, whether it be a three wheeler to an 18 wheeler, either get good advice or let the professionals do the hard work. Don’t let cheap alternatives sway you! Good luck

Running out of time this weekend to clean your car? Why not try a mobile car cleaning service

If you are anything like myself, finding time to do everything these days is hard. I work long hours, and go over and above for my boss. I’m always running out of time to do something, last week it was mowing the lawns, this week will probably be stripping that wallpaper off the spare room. Then there is the sad state that is my car. Gone are the days when I was able to spend half the day on Saturday cleaning and making her shiny, now with a mortgage and a baby on the way, keeping the car looking good gets put on the bottom of the list. So I decided to try a mobile car cleaning service. I have used them before a few years ago when I was selling my old car, and I was very impressed. The cost is nothing dramatic, the guy who did the cleaning told me the first clean would cost the most as it was in such a state, but the on going cost along with perks of regular cleaning is actually quite low.

The great thing about a mobile car cleaning service is that they come directly to your door. I decided to have my car cleaned at home, and got them in on Saturday morning. So after a quick chat with the operator, I got stuck into the spare bedroom walls and could even keep an eye on the job through the window! It was great. The car looks awesome, the spare room is starting to take shape and my partner is happy – well not as happy as she would be if her car was cleaned, but maybe next week if she’s lucky!

I would strongly recommend anyone to using a mobile car cleaning service; it certainly helps me free up my time and has helped keep my car in great condition. The great thing about the mobile service is that they bring everything; they even had power and shelter! I gave the guys use of our power, but next time I will get them to come to my work. My boss is a car nut so I will be recommending the service to him especially. Now onto the next big task – lawn mowing………..

Car Cleaning

We all try to replicate that show room shine. Just walk into your nearest car sales yard and have a look at their cars, shiny paint, glistening chrome, sparkling glass and stand out tyres. When we clean our cars at home we try and get our vehicles looking the same way. If you are cleaning your car incorrectly it can make the paint prematurely dull or damaged. Making sure you use good quality products and techniques is a start. The paint on your car is not necessarily the same as your neighbours car. Some car paints have clear coats, some don’t. Making sure you understand about your cars paint is critical for keeping it looking like new. Older cars have thicker paint than newer cars; the thickness of the paint on your car is more than likely just thinner than a piece of writing paper.

Always ask for advice if you need it. Keeping your car in its best condition will not only make you feel better when driving it, but when you come to trade it in or sell it, you will still get a high resale value. With our current economic conditions car valet companies are busier than ever because people upgrading or changing their cars want that extra thousand dollars for their car. It is amazing the difference in price you can get when you have looked after your car. Always remember to try and clean your car in the shade, especially in the summer time. If you wash your car with a bucket and hose, the soap suds can dry into paint if cleaned out in the sun. Try and wash either in the shade, first thing in the morning, in the evening or on a cloudy day.

In New Zealand at present, especially in the North Island, the risk of drought plays a big part with water consumption. Conserving water is high on our council’s lists of things to do. If you are in an area that is suffering from drought conditions or are on tank water, then using a waterless wash could be your answer to your problems. There are mobile valet companies that use the waterless cleaning chemicals, but you can also buy them off the shelf. If you have never used this cleaning method before always read the instructions or talk to someone who has and can point you in the right direction. Using a valet service certainly has its benefits, they have all the correct chemicals and materials for cleaning your car, and they are also professionally trained. Good luck and happy car cleaning!

Car Grooming

Kiwis in NZ learn from an early age about car grooming, we were all roped in by our dads on those Saturday afternoons, after running around the sports fields all morning, to help clean our parent’s cars. This is where the basic skills of car grooming came in to play. Dad would always use good quality products that clean the paint as well as protect the paint from the harsh elements. The exterior of the car gets the most wear on our vehicles, and is constantly hit with different elements like, dirt, dust, stones, leaves, branches, wind, water, sand, smoke etc. Even when a car is parked inside a garage, it still has dust and particles that land on the outside of the car. When washing the outside of your car, use a product that has a built in wax. This will help protect the paint. If you use a hose and bucket technique to wash the outside, make sure you dry the car with a towel or chamois to help prevent water spot damage. With the use of a proper hand applied wax every 3-4 months, you can ensure the paint is fully protected. If you are going to use a Waterless washing technique, most of the premixed products have a built in waxing agent which will help the paint shine.

Using a Waterless wash does not replace a hand applied wax; this should still be carried out in order to keep the paint in tip top condition. A complete outside clean would include wheels and tyres as well. Protecting your tyres is also a must, making sure tyre pressures are correct will not only help with fuel economy but also keep the tyre looking good as low tyre pressure can lead to cracking. Protecting the tyre with a good quality water based dressing helps prevent cracking and keeps them looking like new. Using a silicone dressing makes the tyres look great but it can sometimes lead to extra cleaning if the silicone flicks up off the tyre when you start driving your car and landing on the body panels.

What about car grooming on the inside of your car? Correct grooming on the inside of your car is also essential, it helps protect your seats and carpets from wear and tear, and also keeps away those bad smells. Can you see out your windscreen? Clean glass not only helps you see, but it helps prevent fogging up, sun glare, and it looks great. Quite often the inside of the car is neglected, but with a regular vacuum, a shampoo to remove any stains or dirt, clean glass and some deodorise, your car can be like new again. Grooming your dash board is also a must; it keeps that new shine in the dash and stops it from cracking. Most dashboards will show signs of wear and tear from an early age if not groomed properly. The dashboard is the one place inside the car that is always hot as the windscreen magnifies the sun.

Discolouring, cracking and warping are just some of the downsides to neglecting your dashboard. Using the correct products on the dashboard are essential, try and stay away from silicones, as the car gets hot, the products will start to steam slightly, if you have silicone it can transfer from the dashboard onto your windscreen which can then be very hard to remove and can impair your vision. Use water based dressings for the dashboard and remember to clean it thoroughly before applying to get the best results. If you get stains on your seats or carpets, it always helps to get them removed as soon as possible before they leave a mark on the fabric. Using a shampoo method, car grooming companies can remove most stains easily and quickly.

It’s amazing the difference after having your seats and carpets shampooed, you don’t realise how dirty they are until you have them cleaned! If you have leather seats in your car, having them regularly cleaned and rejuvenated is an absolute must. Leather seats are similar to skin; if they are left untreated they can crack and discolour. Using a Leather Crème is the best method for protecting them, it’s almost like a moisturiser, it helps keep the leather looking great and keeping it protected. It is always recommended to get a professional to carry out any car grooming work as they have on hand all the necessary products for cleaning your car. So go and get your car geared up for what ever season it is and keep it in show room condition!
